A richly detailed organic cotton tea towel inspired by a much-loved local bridle path on the edge of Exmoor. Badgers Walk captures an imagined glimpse into the undergrowth, where ferns, bluebells, roots and hedgerow growth create a wonderfully layered woodland scene full of quiet life and character.

The illustration grew from one of the artist’s favourite circular walks near her Devon home. Slip between the beech hedges and the path opens into a fern-filled public bridleway known locally as “Badger’s Walk.” With its deep banks, rooty hollows and views across the valley, it feels like exactly the sort of place that could be home to generations of badgers.

The Story Behind the Design

Spring brings the path to life in an entirely different way. Fresh beech leaves begin to unfurl, the undergrowth thickens and bluebells fill the hedgerows with colour and fragrance. It is this spirited abundance of Devon’s countryside that inspired the final design.

Rather than illustrating a single moment literally, the artist has created an imagined snapshot of the path — a layered glimpse into the hidden world beneath the hedges, full of texture, movement and the sense that wildlife is never far away.
