Natural CO₂ Decaffeination

The moistened tea leaves are placed inside a pressurized chamber with carbon dioxide. Under pressure, the CO₂ becomes a liquid and gently draws caffeine from the leaves while preserving much of the tea’s original flavor and character. The liquid is then removed, and the remaining CO₂ returns to its gaseous form and dissipates as the leaves dry.

Decaffeinated tea is not completely caffeine-free and may retain approximately 1–2% of its original caffeine.

Natural CO₂ Decaffeination

Our Arundel Decaf Ceylon undergoes a natural carbon dioxide (CO₂) decaffeination process designed to remove caffeine while preserving much of the tea's original flavor, aroma, and character.

During this process, moistened tea leaves are placed in a pressurized chamber where carbon dioxide acts as a solvent to extract the caffeine. Once the process is complete, the pressure is released, allowing the CO₂ to return to its gaseous state and dissipate.

Unlike traditional decaffeination methods that use chemical solvents such as methylene chloride, this process uses carbon dioxide to gently remove caffeine while maintaining the qualities of the original tea.

Decaffeinated tea is not entirely caffeine-free. A small amount of caffeine remains, generally around 1–2% of the original caffeine content.
